Crit Club is an MFA-style critique class, consisting of weekly rotating studio visits hosted by members of the group.Though many participants sport BFAs and/or MFAs, the criteria for inclusion is a serious and respectful attitude towards art-making and constructive criticism. Rotating locations every week, the structure of the class is based on providing each host’s work an in-depth critique, followed by shorter sessions for other presenting artists, who share
on a bi-weekly basis. The work included in this exhibition represents one piece from each artist, showing the development of their respective focus. The participating artists live and work in New York City, Brooklyn, New Jersey, Long Island, Philadelphia, and beyond. The fall session of the class was coordinated with help from Abrons Art Center on the Lower East Side of New York City. The fall 2017 iteration of Crit Club has been organized and taught by Catherine Haggarty and Hilary Doyle. Both Haggarty and Doyle are working artists and curators based in New York.
