Silent Witness at Local Project

October 08, 2016

Silent Witness
By Sarah Frazier
Oct 13 – 30, 2016

Opening October 13, 6-8pm

Silent Witness is a collection of paintings exploring the imagined last moments of Tyrone Love, a young African-American male and friend of Frazier’s, who was gunned down in his Seattle neighborhood. The abstracted landscapes of night sky, street lamps, and pavement are sourced from photographs Frazier took at the site of his shooting, after his death in 2009. This series is part of an ongoing body of work that explores themes of violence and trauma and the associated images generated for public consumption.

Sarah Frazier is an artist living and working in Queens, NY. Her work explores history, trauma, collective memory and witness. Using source materials varying from photographs, digital media, to historical works of art, she creates new works examining the role of visual culture in shaping history and memory in order to develop a space for reflection, connection, and empathy. Her work can be viewed at Sarah-Frazier.com.

This exhibition is made possible in part by the Queens Council on the Arts, with public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
